How much is the narrative film 'sisters in law' a dependable source to represent the circumstance of ladies' privileges in Came - Essay Example Issues in Cameroon In this segment, the issues looked by ladies in Cameroon have been recorded down and examined as appeared in the narrative. The unwavering quality of the narrative is likewise dissected with the assistance of some autonomous sources. Youngster Marriage The narrative shows that ladies are typically offered at a youthful age in the nation (Ayisi and Longinotto, 2005). Because of early marriage, they can't finish their instruction. An early marriage additionally offers ascend to early pregnancies which is unsafe both for the mother just as the youngster. This issue is supported by the insights introduced by UNICEF. As per UNICEF 36% of ladies were hitched before the age of 18 of every 2010. Along these lines, the issue of Child marriage is actually a major issue in Cameroon and has been caught well by the narrative (UNICEF, 2010). Auctioning off Daughters In the start of the narrative we have seen a case in which the ladies were ‘sold’ of as spouse by the dad as an end-result of endowment. This is an extremely huge issue in numerous Islamic social orders. Ladies are considered as product by the family which can be sold for the perfect sum (Ayisi and Longinotto, 2005). Guardianship of Children The Islamic law says that if there is divorced person or if the spouse flees, the authority of the kids remains with the dad. In spite of the fact that Cameroon has present day arrangement of law set up yet the general public despite everythi ng follows age old convention and a lady needs to battle so as to get care of her kids (Ayisi and Longinotto, 2005).Once again the narrative concentrated on the Islamic populace of Cameroon and neglects to give a knowledge into the practices followed by others of Cameroon. Physical maltreatment Physical Abuse is another large issue which is looked by ladies in Cameroon. Olive Seniors Decision To Abandon Poetic Conventions English Literature Essay Essay Example

Olive Seniors Decision To Abandon Poetic Conventions English Literature Essay Taking a gander at Senior s poesy from the start glimpse one will immediately perceive that her signifier of poesy is obviously not quite the same as other advanced West Indian poesy. The significant distinction lies in her assurance to relinquish shows. The term wantonness intends to forsake or dismiss. Beautiful shows are utilized to delineate an example or gadget which is acknowledged as a fundamental, utile, or given attribute of poesy. Inconvenience alludes to misfortune, mischief or burden. Along these lines the disputable can be rehashed to expect that be taking to desert or reject essential qualities of poesy Senior s plant has be impeded. The gathering emphatically contradicts this announcement as we see Senior s fill in as only uncommon and the road through which she brings to the bow all the components of the Caribbean and its kin. Had occupying been to Senior s hurt her purpose would non hold been accomplished. All through the entirety of her refrain structures army subjects and issues are managed. Her section structures are agonizing of Caribbean beneficial encounters and grouped manners by which the Caribbean subjects endeavor to show signs of improvement of or exceed expectations the difficulties they face on an everyday balance. The refrain structure Tropic Love investigates love and connections and the capacity played by every sex. It manages the hard judgments grown-up females must do as it respects to connections and the result it will hold her family. Pineapple articulations at the advancement of the Aboriginal people groups and how trust can simple be mishandled. Senior through Amazon Women praises the quality of grown-up females and their fights to happen their distinction. In what capacity can one, subsequent to perusing these section structures reason that her plants were harming? Verse is non only for stylish pleasance however to show existent condition of affairss and Senior s section structures can guarantee to that. It is fairly conceivable that had Senior depended on the solid lovely shows the truly bit of her work would hold been lost as they likely would hold kept her from giving her emotions and thoughts. These very shows would hold most positively prompted the hurt of her work. Senior does non require to trust on elegant or lush semantic correspondence to give her interests. The issue she nowadayss are existent life issues consequently to be solidly imparted they should be introduced in a basic, simple mode. Be that as it may, with ordinary poesy only the individual emotions and wants of the artists are portrayed rendering them unrelatable. There is no reason for creating a stanza structure if at the terminal the peruser is left inquisitive about what was simply perused. As an outcome Senior s poesy is every now and again esteemed to be of more substa nce. Her sonnets papers existent life condition of affairss and every leave the peruser bite overing about these worries and most occasions exercises are found out. It is just as by redirecting Senior is permitted more flexibleness and opportunity and consequently she is capable O utilize her creative permit to make things happen the encounters she experiences day by day into fascinating, self satisfying and of import refrain structures. Senior uses the Grecian folklore of Amazon grown-up females to epitomize the quality, valiance, fortitude, independency and versatility of grown-up females. In Hurricane Story 1903, 1951, 1988 , Senior presents ways of life of various family units and how a calamity exceptionally typhoons can hold changing consequences for each. Senior, in Tropic Love utilizes a straightforward duologue between a grown-up male and a grown-up female to closer view the highlights of a commonplace tropical relationship and the issues that grown-up females face in these connections. Man needs sex and friends however delays to offer committedness. In these three refrain structures there is little or no grounds of regular habits, signifiers and components of poesy all things considered, issues and concerns are introduced and the peruser can comprehend and hang on them. Thusly, Senior s expectation is accomplished thus obviously questions the debatable. Olive Senior does non pass additional clasp guaranting that the lines in her refrain structures follow an impossible to miss rime methodology or contains a set figure of lines. Nor is her poesy burdened by pictures, nonliteral gadgets or unpredictable or expand developments. I can think about, had Senior made these shows her priority the central reason for her work would hold kicked the bucket. Consequently it must be re-stressed that her assurance to be unexpected delivered all the more great in comparison to injury. Senior s goal is to ensure that when people read her refrain structures they can partner to the condition of affairss and have the option to get them. In what capacity would that be able to be conceivable on the off chance that one has no idea with respect to what the subject of the stanza structure is? Senior uses certain qualities which a few writers would scoff at, for example, narrating story, tattle Creole slang. Be that as it may, these attributes make her refrain structures relatable, checking on and they pull perusers. These are the qualities which are regular to her perusers rendering her refrain structures understandable. One could express that Olive Senior uniqueness from graceful shows attempts to demo handle to life and that there is a whole other world to verse than just giving rime, yet to concede the of import things and fights in existence with each line or refrain. The way wherein Senior composes the refrains in her section structure is other than a disparity from lovely show yet it helps in accomplishing her work progressively originative as in the section structure Yemoja where the verses are made as such where it looks like the dorsum and forward movement of the sea moving edges. The section structure plots how nature is firmly connected and the perish or suspend of the H2O musicality would result in the expire of life itself as sketched out in her refrain structure. The stanza structure Yemoja shows how nature ( the H2O ) sustains the land as a female parent would encourage her child and can be connected to the way that the life of a child relies upon the female parent and the life of the land relies altogether upon H2O. Senior decides to occupy from the traditional way of creating poesy with an infiltration of phantasy as she sees verse more than simply a look of oneself however next to pass on noticeable radiation to the clashes of life as showed in another of her stanza structures Hurricane Narrative 1903 where the help of the individuals relied upon their livestock and is a thought of the lives of most Caribbean individuals and how they make due off their livestock and if suck a calamity like the typhoon. Senior other than goes astray to portray the male and female relationship in the refrain structure as it show how the capacity of the grandmother was to cultivate while the gramps took on endeavors which requested musculus which could be noted other than as a trait of families in the Caribbean. Through her dissimilarity she other than depicts how universes and nature are firmly connected and now and again sends an admonition as appeared in Hurricane story 1903 . Be that as it may, he was the seventh kid of a seventh kid and could understand stamps and decipher admirations so when the sups flew underneath the rooftop line, when the sky took on a specific Prunus persica newness, when rushes f feathered creatures cruised west past that certain point. At the point when mists banked at the far side and the air was still, he realized it was clasp to make sure about down. Thusly she shows that nature and fills in as a traitor to grown-up male and a turn of events or the constant use of designing occupies our going to from nature. Olive Senior is a station frontier creator and it is normal of her to redirect from graceful shows. By making so Senior is recommending that poesy can at present be as efficacious or considerably progressively strong regardless of whether one does non fit in with wonderful shows. Senior may hold considered shows to be a cutting edge twenty-four hours signifier of servitude and consequently was unrealistic of intruding on liberated from all the components that attempted to stifle her. Through creation so she other than features or brings to the head the privilege of opportunity of look, a privilege to which the oppressed had been denied. Senior s poesy commends her independence and heredity ; it furnishes her and her peruser with a recharged feeling of pride. So as to achieve this senior needed to grab the customary methods of forming poesy. Along these lines she delivered a craftsmanship extraordinarily Caribbean, a workmanship which mirrors her assurance to hinder away. Olive Senior s assurance to redirect has in no way negatively affected the reaction of her work. Without her challenge to be diverse at that spot would non hold been the acknowledgment that being various does non expect losing.

Blog Archive UC-Berkeley Haas Essay Analysis, 20112012

Blog Archive UC-Berkeley Haas Essay Analysis, 2011â€"2012 UC-Berkeleys Haas School of Business has streamlined their essays somewhat this year, finally removing a small piece that was arguably redundant, and that pertained to your research on the school (wasn’t that covered in the broader personal statement?). Haas still peppers you with a few quick hits of 250 wordsfive of them, in factthat will require you to brainstorm at length to keep the reader learning. As you write these essays, you will be challenged to draw from various experiences to ensure that the reader is engaged, but you should not focus solely on discussing different experiences in each essay; you should focus on revealing different skills as well. Two stories about landing a new client are definitely redundant. Two stories that occur at the office, one about landing a new client and the other about being an effective mentor, serve to introduce new aspects of your experience. Still, if possible, you should offer a mix of professional, community and personal experiences in your essays to demonstrate that you have a strong internal motor and various arrows in your quiver. 1. What brings you the greatest joy? How does this make you distinctive? (250 word maximum) This question will no doubt bewilder a lot of candidates: “What do they want to hear?” “What is a reasonable answer?” “How do I make myself distinct?” We suggest that you think about (surprise!) what truly brings you the most joy in your life and then focus pointedly on a single experience or a group of experiences within that area of interest. Perhaps you are happiest when you are indulging your imagination  through art or pushing yourself physically in some kind of athletic activity. Although both of these options can be interesting, neither is necessarily “distinctive,” so you will need to determineâ€"and then communicateâ€"the way in which your particular passion for the activity in question is unique. This could entail how you engage in this interest or perhaps the circumstances in which you first developed an affinity for this aspect of your lifeor another angle on the topic altogether. Obviously, conveying a sense of the joy you obtain from this thing or activi ty is important, but revealing how that joy is manifest in a way that is specific to you will mean the difference between a successful essay and one that is commonplace. 2. What is your most significant accomplishment? (250 word maximum) Your most significant accomplishment can be from any sphereâ€"professional, community, academic, personalâ€"but when you are choosing which to feature for this essay, be sure to maintain a sense of balance among these spheres in the totality of your application. In short, try to represent as many dimensions of your candidacy as possible as you respond to these short-answer questions. So, whichever aspect of your profile you choose to highlight here, it should not be represented elsewhere in your application. This means that you will have to exercise judgment. The key to this essay is to choose an experience that is simple but powerfulâ€"one that speaks for itself and draws the reader in, allowing him/her to draw a clear conclusion about your capabilities. Even with just 250 words, you can sufficiently recount a story that accomplishes this goal. 3. Describe a time when you questioned an established practice or thought within an organization. How did your actions create positive change? (250 word maximum) To successfully respond to this question, you do not need to present yourself as some kind of rebel or rabble-rouserâ€"you can challenge authority while still acting diplomatically. What is important to Haas’s admissions committee is whether you have the strength of character to stand up for what you feel is right. So, if you have a story about a time you blew the whistle on a fraud, this would of course be a fitting experience to share, but we expect that most candidates will instead have relatively simple stories about instigating less dramaticâ€"yet still meaningfulâ€"changes within their companies. Maybe your firm originally had a “trial by fire” culture that left newcomers floundering and you launched a system of training modules that facilitated and standardized the process of bringing new hires up to speed. Again, much as you should also do for essay one, you will need to spend some time focusing on the manifestation of your actionsâ€"the change itself is not nearly as i mportant as how you brought about that change. 4. Describe a time when you were a student of your own failure. What specific insight from this experience has shaped your development? (250 word maximum) Haas’s questions are not getting much easierâ€"four short questions in, and the admissions committee wants to hear about a failure you have experienced. Many applicants feel that failure is the most difficult topic to write about, because few have had “heroic” failures (e.g., you left your job to start a nonprofit that could not raise the necessary funds and had to fold)â€"which are relatively easy to write about and reflect well on the candidateâ€"and instead have had embarrassing failures (which applicants typically should avoid sharing). So, what is the right kind of failure to discuss, if you do not have one of the heroic variety? The first thing to do when trying to identify which failure experience to share is to analyze your successes. Most successes that are worth discussing were hard earned, meaning that they most likely involved some failures along the wayâ€"you may have simply forgotten about some of the failures you experienced as part of the successes you ultimately achieved. For example, the popular new product that you launched may have initially been mispriced; you may have encountered production delays that you should have been able to avoid; you may have had trouble convincing a single retailer to sell it or originally targeted the wrong venues.  Of course, these are just examples, but the nature of business is that projects are revised, deals are delayed, efforts are stymied. To write a strong essay response to this question, you must clearly convey your specific actions and intentions, thereby revealing a sincere effort on your part that simply yielded unexpected results in the end.  You will a lso need to identify and share key learnings from the experience that caused you to change your overall approach going forward. 5. Describe a time when you led by inspiring or motivating others toward a shared goal. (250 word maximum) In essay two, Haas’s admissions committee is interested in learning about how you operate as a “lone wolf.” In this essay, the school wants to understand that you can also be a team playerâ€"that you can rouse others to aspire to greater heights and to work toward (or more likely  achieve) a team goal. One can certainly generate inspiration and motivation via fiery speeches and grandiose displays, but these are not the only ways. Humbly setting an example for others to follow can be just as effective. In the end, though, the particular manner in which the inspiration was produced is not that relevant, but you will need to demonstrate a clear cause-and-effect relationship between your actions and the reactions of others as you worked together to achieve your goal. 6. a. What are your post-MBA short-term and long-term career goals? How have your professional experiences prepared you to achieve these goals? 6. b. How will an MBA from Haas help you achieve these goals? (1,000 word maximum for 6a. and 6b.) The Effects Of Helicopter Parenting On Young Adults Who...

Helicopter parenting is the over use or excessive use of parental guidance thought to generate a slower progression of emotional maturity and physical wellbeing in young adults. The methods used in this review include examining previous literature and current studies on this issue of helicopter parenting. The purpose of this review is to establish the measure of autonomy and mental wellbeing in young adults who are entering college for the first time. This literary review looks at the long term effects of helicopter parenting. While parental involvement is clearly linked to positive traits in children, can over parenting produce negative outcomes? Issues that have been related to helicopter parenting include a lack of autonomy and satisfaction with life, increased stress, anxiety and depression and overall poor coping skills (Schiffrin et al., 2013). Perhaps if a link between the issues listed above and helicopter parenting can be proven, then a way to correct or reverse the issue can also be identified. The current research and studies on the effects of helicopter parenting are being pioneered by Chris Segrin of Arizona State University. This Article Provides A Brief Overview Of Existing Research

This article provides a brief overview of existing research on the effects of exposure to violent video games. An updated meta-analysis reveals that exposure to violent video games is significantly linked to increases in aggressive behavior, cognition, affect, and cardiovascular arousal, and to decreases in helping behavior. Experimental studies reveal the linkage is causal. Correlational studies reveal a links to serious, real types of violence. Methodologically weaker studies yielded smaller effect sizes than methodologically stronger studies, suggesting that previous meta-analytic studies of violent video games do not compare to the true magnitude of observed deleterious effects on behavior, cognition, and affect. Introduction Video†¦show more content†¦A few years later, in 2001, Anderson and Buschman, used meta-analytic techniques in order to combine results from empirical studies over violent video games and their effects on five different outcome variables: aggressive cognition, aggressive behavior, aggressive affect, psychological arousal, and helping behavior. Significant effects on these variables were found. Violent video games increase aggressive thoughts, behaviors, feelings, and arousal. The results also show that violent video games decrease the helping behavior. This study was performed on all different types of people: young, older, male, and female.
